Media: the media is used in the singular, to refer to an institution, but it is in fact comprised of many different individuals, organizations and industries. Media industries: most of these media organizations, nally, belong to particular industries; most media, in, eg. eg. the lm industry, music industry, etc. other words, are commercial in nature. Vertical integration: conglomeration of media industry has also led to vertical integration (convergence, each conglomerate owns and controls different parts of supply chain in production/ distribution or media content, media conglomerates own: Lm and television studios and production companies that make movies, tv, etc. Movie theatres that show those lms and cable stations that broadcast those tv shows. Newspapers, magazines, tv programs and websites that promote them. Cross-promotion different media: these companies can use conglomeration to cross-promote a property across many, eg. movie trailers during tv broadcasts. Big bank take little bank: media conglomerates own:
