Wysiwyg: what you see is what you get. Proporional font: each character takes up only the space that is needed for that character eg: arial, new imes roman. All characters take up the same amount of space. These fonts are handy for text tables. these fronts are handy for text tables eg: courier, courier new. Serif: characters have ick marks at the ends of the characters. Sans-serif: no ick marks- are oten used for presentaions- supposedly easier to see. Typeface: a design or style of a collecion of characters or symbols. It also includes font size and font style. Font size measured in points (pts) 1inch =72 points(pts) User must manually do many tasks (e. g. seing up toc) Portability problems- stored format of the ile is usually binary. Documents can only be edited within the package or an editor that knows about the format. Focus is on structure, not looks (the program takes care of the looks)
