Closer to the equator = less annual change in temperature and lots of solar radiation. Higher latitudes decrease the amount of solar radiation reaching the surfaces. There would be a greater loss of energy at higher latitudes: continentality and climate. Because of the thermal properties of the nearby ocean. Scilly island has a steady annual temperature range because it is surrounded by water. Winnipeg has a varying annual temperature range because it is inland; called a continental climate. Continental diurnal: temperature range varies throughout the year, colder in the morning than in the afternoon, minimum and maximum temperatures from summer to winter change by 20+ degrees. Urban heat island: a city that is much warmer than the surrounding areas. Little release of latent heat from urban asphalt and concrete. Solar radiation gets reflected between buildings and can"t escape back upwards.
