Space - areal extent, earth surface something occupies. Absolute space: objective, physically real, with measurable extent and definable boundaries, key for map-making, description & analysis (explanation) of spatial distributions, eg. Mcmaster campus: making the point - mathematical projections, eg. Mcmaster campus to you, your perception of the campus: making the point - location identified by their relative positioning & importance, eg. Topological map, scale, distance & positioning are guesstimates. Location - refers to a particular position in space. Absolute (mathematical location) latitude & longitude co-ordinates using an arbitrary mathematical grid: relatively unchanging, objective. Relative (perceived) location: a short drive from downtown, or adjacent to cootes paradise, ect. Nominal (toponym) location: a place name, a location of significance is a given name, names of places can provide a degree of locational understanding, places names can be contested, eg. Place - a location with a particular identity or meaning or significance (individual or collective)
