(more people lived in urban places compared to. 90% of canadians live in urban places, the other 10% live in rural. Fewer rural residents = fewer people producing food. Significant social and cultural shift - shift = urban society. Paved roads, many buildings, homes, commuting (bus, taxi), grocery store, gas station, clothing stores, (within a certain km radius), centre or downtown of city, traffic (roads and sidewalks), dense population, advertising (billboards) ex: times square ny. Inhabited place of greater size, population, more importance than a town/village.
