Increasing cultural connections: economic unit were we join together, proliferation and multinational companies, spurred on through last 30 yrs , through travel, internet, proliferation, moving and migrating for work, directly related to the development in medical pluralism(western health care and healing practices) The sherpa of nepal: ethnic group of 150,00, live in small communities, exist as animal herders, being mountain guides known in our culture, most are tibetan buddhist, living in remote areas, that an average westerner wouldn"t travel too. Medical pluralism among the sherpa: mix of western biomedicine and local healing practices, local healing therapists fit into three categories, orthodox buddhist practitioners for prevention and cures, shemans for diagnosis, biomedicine work in tourist clinics, body is made up in four substances that are called humurs, black bile, yellow bile , flem and blood, they believe diseases are caused when you have more of one of these substances.
