GEOG 3LT3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 11: Scalar Multiplication, Origins Game Fair
Document Summary
You can use connectivity matrixes to measure networks. This is the notation we typically use when working with matrices. Scalars non-bolded italic, upper or lower case. Size of matrix m-by-n, m=rows, n = columns. Marginals are basically summations over rows and columns, this can give us information about a network. If we have a matrix m x n as 3 x 4 this would mean 3 rows 4 columns. Each part of the matrix will have an i and j element: ai goes from a1-a3, aj will go from a-1 to a-4, note the here is just a place holder for i. The summation of the rows is a1- = 5, a2- = 4, and a3- = 5. The summation of the columns is a-1 = 1, a-2 = 2, a-3 = 7, a-4 = 4. You may use a matrix to show the origins and destinations of a network. Say matrix a + b = c.
