Arguments framed largely in economic terms (inevitable and benefits everyone) Arguments have both economic and cultural aspects. Left: rich get richer, poor get poorer; local get destroyed. Right: immigrants take jobs & change society; nation weakened. Advocates: social justice activist (l), populist politicians (r) Economic deregulation, free trade, low government spending. Markets are fairest & most efficient resource allocators. Thesis: a world wide free market is the blueprint for a global order of peace and prosperity for all. Market capitalism is highest stage of human development. No one is in charge of glo. Fuels economic growth= job and wealth creation. Higher living standards - rising tides lift all boats. More people have access to modern amenities. Mostly due to power of those making them (elites?) Saying so de-politicizes it - harder to contest. Increased income inequality (within and between countries) Several very different variants, such as : Lw social justice: rw populist; religious fundamentalists.
