Citizenship = rights and duties to a community. Community = humanity at large, not a home country. Duties and responsibilities shaped by global ethic . Global concern/impact factor into day - to - day decisions. Active engagement (when possible) to realize global ethic. Eg as a result of basic humanity and/or due to to globalization. Eg you"re only a gc if you believe you are and act like one. Global problems and ability to respond is not enough. Notion of universal global ethic provides this. Not a new idea - long history of such thinking. First developed by stoic philosophers (3rd c. bce) All people are united by uniquely human attributes. This is most fundamental tie between people. Ultimate allegiance should be to global human community. Duties / obligations based on universal moral truths. Identify above all with humanity as a whole ( trump attachments to local communities aka country)
