Seen as part of the journey of life. 1347 italians begin to notice the disease. Came from the sea of constantinople (boat ports) England lost 1. 4 million out of 4 million people. Some villages were wiped out, some not even affected. Black death continues to batter population for decades. Takes 200 years for europe to fully recover from the plague. Three types of the disease: bubonic (30-76% fatal) Bacillus yersimia pestis: pneumonic (90% fatal) Symptoms: saliva mixed with mucus and blood: septecemic (100% fatal) Rural versus urban conditions debate (rh hankin) Suggests rural areas were hit harder by the disease. Understood plague as particles floating through the air. Quarantine to stop the spread of virus. Quarantined islands people sent off in ships. They were urban and they didn"t believe in christ so they were targeted.
