Muslims feared being overrun by the hindus (majority). Worked with gandhi and the congress party to gain independence . The only solution to india"s problem is pakistan : great calcutta killing. Called a day of direct action despite recognizing it could lead to fighting between the religions. Some 6000 died in the killing that resulted from the day of direct action. Further fueled the feeling of a religious over national identity.
