Life expectancy at birth: men (38), woman (40). Over the course of 19th c. , ireland"s pop"n will increase, then dramatically decrease. By the 3rd quarter of the 19th c. , britain will be importing more food than it produces. Britain has the largest military navy and merchant fleet. Trade will produce great wealth and later lead to the industrial revolution. Upper class: - aristocracy (titled), gentry (landlords), higher military officers. Middling sort: - bankers, merchants, manufacturers, professionals, commercial owners (shop keeps) Aristocracy (dukes, earls) there are about 300 titled families during this time, and they are the real movers and shakers. Titles marry other titles, in order to remain socially exclusive.
