Emelian pugachev (1740-1775: don cossack but gathered much support in the ural region along the yaik/iaik ural river, and the region was known for its harsh factory condition. Supported by factory workers with tax burdened who faced horrible conditions that were hard hit by prices raises. Demidov factory - any worker that petitioned the tsar for removal from this factory was thrown into the blast furnace (spent 1/3 of their year in travel) Factories were built in the mountains for the metal (they could make weapons for the army, which they did for pugachev: indigenous people were nomadic, grazing land was whittled down, groups were ned for violating. Orthodoxy traditions ( they were being forced to settle, convert to orthodoxy) Bashkirs - have a clear identity of being bashkir, and were alienated regarding the russian policies, and some of pugachev"s of cers came from them. Cossacks - their traditional rights and privileges were being taken away.
