Unemployment has both physical and mental health consequences. Unemployment increases the chances one will die. Effects of unemployment on physical health is not conclusive but its effects on mental health is beyond dispute. Women affected by husband"s unemployment but husbands are not affected by wives" unemployment. Older children affect by unemployment: children less than 8 don"t feel the consequences, older children are affected in the sense that they realize the consequences and have a sense of helplessness. Health effects remain even after re-employment needs more research. Indirect effects of social class on health: life chance and health choices. Prosperity related to health = afford nutrition, afford a health environment. Poor people choose to eat less healthy food, smoke cigarettes, drink alcohol. Income determines: neighbourhood, friends, associates, pressure by peers, expectations. Your ses (socioeconomic status) determines possible choices in your life.
