A paradigm - comes from marxism, humanities, postmodernism and feminism. Critical geron is born out of the frankfurt school of theory - germany. Involved academics who had been using marxist theory to promote ideas, but were not necessarily connected to the communist party: feminists tend to use marxist ideas, formed in 1920s. Humanities - how we understand human experience through the arts - music, history, religion, literature. Feminism takes a critical approach, looking at patriarchy. Postmodernism - an approach that has been broad - not only in social science theory - looks at most aspects of modern times, looking at the postmodern age and the move from the industrial age. Postmodernism is interested in how knowledge is used and formed - a wide-sweeping reaction to critiquing modern times. There is a theme of domination - looks at how institutions exert control over populations. It is also a critique of grand or universal theories.
