Large housing complexes are very large and big. Made for people (cid:449)ho did(cid:374)"t ha(cid:448)e tre(cid:373)e(cid:374)dous studies. Gave everyone living there surveys: people felt really distrustful of their neigbours, feeling suspicious, not doing ok compared to rest of population in other housing. What they did: launch a massive upgrade to complexes. Inc lighting: flowers, scrubbed graffiti, cleaned garbage, etc, did survey again, felt proud to live there, lower shame reported, people felt good about themselves and their environment. Moral: environment plays large role in mh. Those who would have met depression + anxiety criteria dropped off. This change in complex: increased interaction between neighbours. When people say they have (disorder name), they are clinging to the disorder model. Feeling good, positive emotions: happiness, security, sense of control over destiny. A person who can function, interact with others and get their stuff done: connecting to others, meeting needs etc.
