27 views6 pages

Document Summary

Identify 4 principle divisions of the aorta and the areas the supply. Identify the major veins that return blood to the heart and the areas they drain. Describe the structural and functional characteristics of arteries, veins and capillaries. Describe the mechanisms that aid in returning blood to the heart. Describe how blood is distributed throughout the cardiovascular system. Arch of the aorta, arches over pulmonary trunk [extension of ascending] (cid:3202) contains brachiocephalic trunk right common carotid + right subclavian (cid:3202) independent branches: left subclavian + left carotid. Ascending aorta, comes off of left ventricle (cid:3202) right and left coronary arteries. Thoracic aorta, part of the descending aorta [separates from abd. by diaphragm] (cid:3202) contains vessels that supply pericardium, esophagus, bronchi, diaphragm, intercostal + chest muscles, mammary gland, skin, vertebrae, and spinal cord. Abdominal aorta, bottom half of descending aorta (cid:3202) contains that supplies abdominal + pelvic viscera + lower extremities. Gonads develop in the abdominal region but descends later.
