As this is being abolished, indian agents were monitoring reserves and what was happening on reserves. (indian agents are hired by the dep. of indian affairs) Status indians were unable to vote in canadian elections without losing their indian status enfranchising. Indig. people could not be conscripted into war. However, there were over 7000 status indians who enlisted. When soldiers returned home, they found that they were enfranchised and could not return to reserves.
