206 bones in adult human body (more as a child) 80 bones longitudinal axis skull, hyoid bone, vertebrae, ribs, sternum, auditory ossicles. 126 bones upper and lower limbs, pelvic and pectoral girdles. Ridges: points of attachment for muscles onto bone. Projections: points of attachments for muscles and ligaments crossing a joint. 2 parietal: left and right bones, sides and roof of cranial cavity. 2 temporal: each side of skull, inferior lateral cranium, cranial floor. Zygomatic process: inferior, articulates with temporal process of zygomatic bone. Mandibular fossa: socket, inferior posterior surface of zygomatic processes. External auditory meatus: ear canal, direct sound waves. Mastoid process: (mastoid = breast), point of attachment for neck muscles, bump behind ear. Styloid process: point of attachment for muscles of tongue and neck. Carotid foramen: where carotid artery passes , where artery enters cranial cavity. Frontal: forehead, roof of eye, anterior of cranial floor. Occipital condyle: oval processes, sides of foramen magnum, articulate with first cervical vertebrae.
