Document Summary

Shoulder girdle is comprised of: the clavicle and scapula, and the movements they perform together eg. elevation, depression, protraction, retraction. Clavicle pivots at the sternoclavicular (sc) joint: two junctions: one at medial one at lateral end, lever helps us position arm laterally away from body. The scapula and clavicle move together at the acromioclavicular (ac) joint: scapula is suspended from clavicle, not much movement at this joint. Sternal angle separates manibrium from body of sternum. Medial two thirds along the way of clavicle it becomes convex; lateral third is concave. Sternal end front to back perspective: slightly concave: top to bottom perspective: slightly convex, saddle shape. Shaft of clavicle: medial two thirds cross-sectional looks like a triangle, very dense: lateral third it tapers / flattens, becomes blade-like smaller cross-sectional area. Weakest point is where csa is low or where it changes shape. Fracture usually occurs between the medial two thirds and lateral one third.
