Does addicion run in families: children of addicts are at increased risk of becoming addicts themselves, alcoholism is more likely to co-occur in mz twins than dz twins, suggesing a geneic link. Can genes inluence suscepibility to addicion: the aldh2 gene codes for low vs. high responders, aldh2*2/*2 genotype is protecive of alcohol abuse by inducing high responder phenotype. What does it mean to be an addict. Cravings, loss of control in amount of frequency or use. Does a person choose to be an addict. Individual diference in reacion to drugs and alcohol. At the end of the day when they"ve developed it, it becomes a mental disease, don"t have a choice. People know the risk, once they"re addicted it"s a diferent game. Alcoholic problems in adoptees raised apart from alcoholic biological parents. All of the children were adopted, some born of alcoholics and some not, adopted into non- alcoholic families.
