Can be from a direct or indirect experience (happens to you or you witness it happen) Results from extreme traumatic stressor that can occur from direct harm or by witnessing harm to someone else eg. witnessing a death or sept 11. Military combat, violent physical assault, sexual assault, kidnapped, being kept hostage, torture, incarceration, natural and manmade disasters, etc. Not everyone who experiences these events develops ptsd. Physical and mental symptoms contributing to a disorder. Psychological issues of tina: dramatic mood swings, anxiety, hallucinations. Standard medication used to treat mood disorders were ineffective. Mood swings were accompanied by racing heart, nausea, joint pain. Underlying cause of her dysfunction was a rare genetic metabolic disorder. Medication didn"t work because it wasn"t targeting root cause.
