Measured as a combination of education, income, and occupation. Access to resources plus issues related to privilege, power, and control. State of mind and ability to influence people is critical. Low socioeconomic status is more than a lack of money. Senior management: organizational structure and expectations: tell you what to do, what the organization wants to do. Middle management: positioned at the point of greatest dissonance: disconnect between senior management and employees want, at greatest discord, cannot please everyone, don"t have the power to make a lot of change, feel powerless stressful. Employees: individual attitudes, behavioural, and expectations: have their own needs and demands. Monkeys in the middle of the hierarchy had the highest cortisol level. Monkeys have social hierarchies like humans and organize them in quite sophisticated ways.
