Introduction to nervous tissue: understand how nervous system keeps controlled conditions, learn about different branches of nervous system, identify and describe various types of cells found in nervous tissue. Smooth subconsciously controlled: attaching to glands, also sends signals to glands to secrete things, could be hormone released by endocrine gland, integrative, analyzes incoming sensory info, stores some aspects, makes decisions regarding appropriate behaviors. Sensory receptors: different stimuli will have different types of receptors ex. chemical receptors in nose that detect smells. Subdivisions: central nervous system (cns, brain, spinal cord, peripheral nervous system (pns, sensory receptors and nerves if nerves originate or terminate in brain cranial nerves if originate or terminate at spinal cord spinal nerves. Sensory receptors: ending of neurons, separate, specialized cells that detect things like temp, pain, etc. Divisions of pns: sensory (afferent, transmits action potentials from receptors to cns, motor (efferent, transmits action potentials from cns to effectors, ex. muscles, glands.
