Where stem cell research starts: stem cells are pluripotent (totipotent = zygote) Potential to give rise to any cell type: how can we obtain pluripotent cell and turn them into the cells we want them to become. Once differentiation begins cells become committed to a specific cell type / Gene expression / repression determines which pluripotent cells become what.
