Physiology informs your clinical decisions, want to support healing. Ct is the dominant tissue, gives shape and structure and forms muscles: consider this for healing. Ideal is organized, long parallel collagen that resists pulling apart forces, there is space between collagen (extracellular matrix gel-like substance) The gel gives fluid-like properties, changes with temperature. When there is a blow (varus) to the lcl, its disrupts the structure of it, remaining structures will fail with more stress. Body will do this under ideal conditions that we can optimize. Initial chemical response with an injury: histamine: predominant in allergic reaction, prostaglandin: interrupted by aspirin/tylenol, bradykinin, all are vasodilators. Nociceptors stimulated: they are threat detectors (not pain receptors! ), and they are stimulators: pain is not a stimulus, it is the outcome of the threat, nociceptors alert for a threat (change in ph, mechanical disruption, heat, send a message to cns, threshold is dynamic.
