Girlfriend brought charges against him for sexual assault. 2012: killed his girlfriend and then drove to the chief"s training facility and shot himself. 2013: being investigated for a number of murders. Authors like raewyn connell suggest that the biological evidence is weak (there are cultures where male violence and rape do not exist) Variability across cultures and over time: masculinity, male aggression is a learned phenomenon. Our bodies are not wholly biological but they are not wholly social either. Bodies lactate, sweat, give birth, ejaculate in different ways thus, there is a gender difference between bodies but the effect on behaviour is up for debate. There is a physical sense of maleness and femaleness (+ debate of other genders) The average male and female look different muscles, genitals, skin texture. But big muscles are complex signifiers: crude physicality, sign of vanity, ambiguous sexuality, outlaw femininity. Men go to the gym to get bigger while women go to get smaller.
