Every verb phrase could have one of the other elements. Q2: sub-categorization of the verb (identification of types from list provided) Q3: identify the underlined phrases (np, ap, vp, advp) and state their syntactic function (do etc. from list provided) At the center of vp is the verb (v) V is the head of the vp. V is a complicated phenomenon which includes tense and auxiliaries = verb group (vgrp) Tense and degree words (adverbs) are the specifiers (will not be covered dealt in chapter 8: for now, concentrate on the complements.
