Worst: i will be observing retail communication using multiple paradigms when inquiring about a non- existent product. Better: in this study, i will be investigating whether my style of dress affects the use of the phatic function of language, as defined by jakobson, in the retail setting when trying to buy a fictitious product. Thesis: in this study, we will be investigating whether using a formal style of dress increases the use of the phatic function of language, as defined by jakobson, from associates in pet stores.
