Composed of vascular, elastic tissue: right lung contains three lobes, left lung contains two lobes. Composed of blood, arterial and venous network, connective tissue, respiratory pathway. The heart needs the space (left side) & the mediastenum is located more on the left side. Communication between the external and internal environment is by means of the trachea and the bronchial tree. Repeated subdivisions of this bronchial tree end with the alveoli, the site of gas exchange. These highly vascularized alveoli alveoli provide the mechanism by which oxygen enters and. Pollutants entering the respiratory tract are removed through the cleansing action of the beating epithelia that line the bronchial passageways: movement of air through the system.
