Percutaneous nephrostomy: accessing renal pelvis via needle/ catheter to drain system, most common urinary intervention. Infected hydronephrosis: post-surgical damage to ureter, ureteral fistulas & retroperitoneal fibrosis. Infection kidney or bladder: meds for anxiety. Insert wire through needle, then dilators, then catheter: wire removed, catheter is sutured to the skin, bag attached to the catheter via extension tubing, posterior angle better angle better approach purple circle. Complications and risks (not frequent: hemorrhage or infection are the most common, catheter related: dislodgement/occlusions, perforation of the kidney, blood clots in the hilum of the kidney will resolve on their own due to endogenous urokinase.
