MEDRADSC 3C03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Muscular Layer, Hemodynamics, Degenerative Disease
Document Summary
Arteries- atheroma or embolus: thrombosis is the build up and any piece dislodged from the thrombus is called an embolus that travels through blood stream and is logged in peripheral vessels. Mi in imaging: fluoro or cta used. Pad: causes issues in ir, common femoral artery common access site, may have issues accessing the vessels. Thrombophlebitis: thrombus in the veins and associated inflammation of the vessel wall. Phlebothrombosis: thrombus without associated inflammation, no wall thickening, critical diagnosis in dvt as it may lead to pulmonary embolus (pe) Aneurysm: localized area where arterial wall is dilated or weakened, thrombus may occur here due to thrombus. Clotting studies: evidence of coagulopathy, disease affecting clotting, taking medication that affects clotting, platelet count low, or conditions that affect platelets. Evaluation of renal function required: history of renal dysfunction, disease likely to impair renal functions, heart failure, certain meds, nephrotoxic. The kidney filters this out of the blood and releases into the urine.
