Document Summary
Ir is a multidisciplinary department composed of specially trained rads, nurses, us, xr techs & support staff, who perform minimally invasive, image-guided procedures (ie. biopsies & angiograms), which have been requested to treat &/or diagnose diseases. Ir is a medical subspecialty of radiology utilizing minimally-invasive image-guided procedures to diagnose & treat diseases in nearly every organ system. Minimally invasive image guidance is what separates ir from surgical procedures. Patients are referred to ir by supervising physician (ie family doctor, supervising ward physician, oncologist, er physician, etc) Interventional radiologist reviews referrals/reqs for approval (ie reviews bloodwork or previous imaging, or requests further testing/imaging) Patient appointments are schedules/triaged, patients given appropriate prep instructions if required. Patient arrives in ir & is seen by nurse or tech who reviews chart (making sure patient prep was followed) & takes patient history (allergies, bloodwork, medication, etc)
