MEDRADSC 3DA3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Ct Scan, Ejection Fraction, Coronary Circulation
Document Summary
Ejection fraction: amount of blood leaving the heart with each contraction. Non-invasive way of obtaining information about the location & extent of plaque in the coronary arteries. Allows us to visualize the ejection fraction by using contrast. Plaque is a build-up of fat & other substances, including calcium - location & amount of plaque. Soft plaque vs calcified/hard plaque - soft can be more detrimental than hard (cannot be seen without contrast) Strictures, see a dip where the plaque is with a decrease in. Is myocardium is not receiving enough blood, the ejection fraction decreases. Over time - narrow the arteries or even close off blood flow to the heart. May result in angina or heart attack. Heart attack: complete cut off of blood flow. Motion requires good tr (ability to freeze a structure in time) Improve tr as you decrease arc used (same attenuation/slice when imaging the head back to front & front to back)
