Ability to see one"s self as contributing &/or independent. Family have always cared for ill family members but expectation placed on caregivers today is much more complicated than in the past. Family caregivers provide for the needs of most long term & medically complex family members for months/years. Most of these caregivers are themselves middle aged or older - most are women.
