Document Summary

Fetal circulation: 3 route for blood flow through the fetal heart, normal, foramen ovale shunt, rt atrium -> left atrium, ductus arterosus shunt, pulmonary artery-> aorta. Rad appearance: cardiomegaly, pulmonary vascularity enlarged, all seen on right side of the heart. If gap is too large to pull together and connect, they use a patch which will stretch with growth of heart. Rad appearance: heart enlarged and triangular, pulmonary trunk: very large. Patent ductus arteriosus: ductus arteriosus remains open after birth, blood shunted l to r from aorta (higher pressure) -> pulmonary artery, results in increased blood volume in pulmonary circuit therefore also in left atrium and left ventricle. Rad appearance: cardiomegaly, enlarged left atrium and ventricle, poor image given, ct ratio over 50, whole left side is grossly enlarged. Image b: aortagram, injected contrast blood is going through that should not be traveling in that direction (these should all close at birth)
