Early bio art (the mutated delphinium lowers by edward steichen (1936) and the germ painings (1933) of alexander fleming) was judged on aestheic quality. Recent bio art is controversial and seen as either: an arful" form of eugenics of bio arists as pawns for the bio tech industries. Need to get out from under the sensaionalism and ask more complex quesions about the ramiicaions of manipulaing life as an art pracice.
