All eyes on me: surveillance and privacy in the digital age (30/01/2017) Last class: user generated content & search, the politics and political economy of search engines, the googlization of the internet. Google technically doesn"t have to disclose their algorithms. Now google & facebook are the two most visited sites in the world, a lot of people use both to nd things on the web. Maybe in todays day & age its more accurate to speak of a duopoly rather than a monopoly consider facebooks role in completing with google in curating the web. Today"s (and next) class: surveillance and privacy on the internet, choice architecture, the panopticon and panopticism , participatory surveillance, synopticism, and sousveillance. Over the last few years we"ve become increasingly sensitive to who we provide access too, on our social media: e. g. not adding family members on facebook, e. g. privatizing your instagram account.
