Possibly the greatest thing to come out of the baroque era. A new type of music for us: physiological understanding of the passions controlled by the four humours; passions or affects were depicted by stylized gestures in art. We will see how this plays out in opera and music and other art forms: arts and ideas: the baroque era, science and philosophy. Considerable advancements in science thru increased importance of empirical observation and measurement. Galileo galilei improved the telescope, discovered jupiter"s moons, and defended the heliocentric view of the solar system (also posited by copernicus) Knowledge unfolding at a very quick pace. Interest in these observations and knowledge is refl. in music.
