I have chosen this topic because upon doing some research it seems to be a topic that is highly controversial. The smart growth movement aspires to transform the way cities grow and function. Proposes urban forms and dynamics that are more compact and less reliant on automobiles. Increasing residential density and transit use which is very important for the sustainability of the environment. Toronto in particular has struggled with smart growth due to: competition from other issues, financial capacity, the absence of metropolitan government, waves of residential development w/ different density implications. But by following certain protocol, what happened in toronto can be avoided elsewhere in canada.
