A decade where cynicism starts to set in. Decade where a lot of people lost faith in their institutions (because of things like. During the 1970s we see a shaking of the sense of national pride. A response to what happened in the 1960s, but also a continuation of the hippie aesthetic (listening vs dancing, album vs singles, etc. from lecture 8) There are many distinctions between hard rock and heavy metal (they are two separate styles of music, sitting at ends of the same continuum) December 4, 2017: tempo and song form, at the hr end, tempos tend to be fairly mid range not too slow but not too fast a comfortable dancing tempo. Once the tempo is established, it is rare for the tempo to change (constant throughout the song: at the hm end, you find a much wider range of tempos. Lots of songs are very fast, and many songs are also very slow.
