Approach to recording - much more collective than motown. Did not use stereo recording everything was in monophonic, a single audio track. Did not use multi track unlike motown who did. Soul was a performance aesthetic - not just about how the song was made. Motown artists never sweat - sweat was seen as a loss of control. They were much more intense in their performances. Everyone played together - no multitrack recording.
