The culture of african-americans has been here since 1619: but it has been devalued, it survived and adapted. By the time we get to the post war era, it gained a foothold in middle-class white audiences: important because that is where the money is. Targeted at a black audience, but it was broadcasted everybody could listen to it: you can have an intended audience, but people are always going to be stumbling onto it, the teenagers . Not a kid, but not an adult. American families start pumping out babies the baby boom. By the time we reach the 1950s, we see lots of young people entering the extended adolescence. Not only do they get to to go out and get jobs and stay in school, but they have some disposable income, so people start to target youth culture with fashion, movies and music. When bing cosby was popular everybody liked him. Some teenagers start to discover black appeal music.
