For homeostasis to occur, it requires a balance between health and disease, for example between inflammation, coagulation and fibrinolysis, or between proto-oncogenes and tumor suppressor cells. Rather homeostasis is complex because not one individual system but multiple systems must work together. As we look at burn patients we can demonstrate that the loss of the integumentary system can impact at a critical level many other systems. The advantages to creating this balance are that it can help us to adapt to changes in our environment both externally and internally. It is essential for optimal conditions any change should bring body back to optimal conditions.
