Mix of common & civil law (canadian constitution) Criminal law is a civil code & canadian constitution. Canadian constitution includes charter of rights & freedoms, the constitution act, and the constitution act of 1982 this is code (civil law) The ways in which the canadian government must treat us; sets out basic structure. Tells us we are a parliamentary democracy; a federal system of government, aka we divide up the government; municipal, provincial, federal. Two types of legislation: statue (primary legislation) The norms passed directly by either the federal or provincial parliament: regulation (subordinate legislation) Those norms which are created by an official or institution that has been empowered via an enabling statue. Government is empowering them to make their own rules. Crtc; canadian radio and telecommunications act; government empower them to make decisions. Statutory established powers: broadcasting act, bell canada act, etc. Regulations: broadcasting information regulations, pay televisions regulations.
