How things ought to be - how we should be behaving. Why should we act in the way that people say we should act, even when it conflicts with our own self-interest. If we work together and give up our freedoms and agree - treating others in a particular way to be treated in the same way - justified because its in our interest. Everyone ought to act in ways in their own self-interest - normative theory. He has to hold reason as his only guide to action. Highest moral purpose is the achievement of his own. Every person is an end in himself - you can use persons for your own ends/goals (e. g. ipad means to an end/human beings not to be used an sacrificed, but respected and views as ends themselves) Choose ways to contribute to your flourishment - fulfill purpose. Self-preservation as your motive and goal of action.
