Conservatism: to be conservative, is to prefer the familiar to the unknown - michael. In some senses it is difficult to define conservatism as a theory. That there is value in tradition (traditional depends on where you live, who yu are, etc. ) The theory of conservatism does not outline one universal political plan that all societies must follow instead, it emphasizes the social value of tradition. But the specific institutions that are traditional differ according to time and place. Nevertheless, the conservative hypothesis is that deference to tradition is important. Edmund burke - reflections on the revolution in france, 1790. What will the french revolution look like in practice: Burke suggests that the revolution will end in despotism. He predicted that the french revolution would end in tyranny. In fact, revolutionary plans of any type are likely to end in violence and turmoil. We must consider society and what holds it together: Burke has a very organic conception of society.
