Metanarrative: simply put: a master explanation that helps to organize other insights and observations within a framework underpinned by a united set of confidently-asserted, fundamental truth-claims. Positionality: the perspective" or vantage point" from which people see and think. Reflexivity: the tendency for a theorist or social actor to be self-conscious and self-reflective about the limitations and effects of one"s own ideas and claims. Deconstruction: an approach to social theory that looks to unsettle the dominant hierarchy between binary oppositions that shape our language and the web of associations between them. Gendered: to gender" something is to associate it with the whole bundle of binary oppositions associated with masculinity and/or femininity. Something is gendered" when its social meaning is influenced by these oppositions. Normativity: a concept describing the classification of certain behaviours, attitudes, and styles as normal" as opposed to unusual", strange" or deviant" calling something normative" recognizes these norms but does not endorse them.
