Important to note at the beginning, marx is not against political emancipation: it would be great, but it would not solve the problem. Now that europe seems to be headed in democracy, people getting equal rights, etc. To understand the first half of essay have to understand there is an opposition between these 2 realms. Basic sense of the argument makes you free up here, but up there is only the smallest bit of your life it is even imaginary. Marx is claiming that this moment we are free and equal is actually our true essence. Human emancipation = the contrast to political emancipation: pg. 15:rights of man and human being that in fact protected by the state, although they are meant to be universal, so ultimately they are political rights: ex. Pg 20-21: only when we overcome this split, when we are actually citizens in our everyday life, only then we will be in fact emancipated.
