PSYCH 1F03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Dishabituation, Classical Conditioning, Habituation
Document Summary
Drug tolerance: the decreased effectiveness of a drug such as morphine over the course of repeated administration. learning plays an important role in the development and maintenance of drug tolerance. Physiological systems attempt to counteract drug effects. the stimulation provided by the drug acts as an unconditional stimulus, and the counteraction acts as the unconditional response. Learning is a relatively enduring change in the mechanisms of behaviour that occurs due to experience. the de nition of learning contains three main concepts: There are two reasons to consider more than behaviour alone, both which involve the the mechanisms of behaviour distinction between learning and performance: 1. behaviour may change for a reason unrelated to learning (being tired) 2. learning may have occurred yet not be immediately re ected in performance. Latent learning: when we observe the effects of learned behaviour that is not yet re ected in performance learning involves change that is relatively enduring.
